general info about lourdes

Hi everyone,

Thanks so much for all your very helpful advice.

I have decided to drive from the airport to lourdes. I am wondering what are road conditions like. what are the speed limits. Any particular rules eg in croatia we discovered that one is required by law to drive with lights on. What time is sunset? What is the weather like this time of the year.

Also what size town is lourdes. Is it easy to drive around. am i likely to need a car once i get into the city. Is the grotto within city limits. Are the various sights accessible by foot.

Am most grateful for all your advice.

Regards,

Christinababe

Althugh I don%26#39;t know the speed limit, but the road from Lourdes airport to the town is good and the trip takes about 20 minutes.

Sunset is around 8.30 and the weather is cool with always a possibility of rain.

Lourdes is split between the %26#39;old%26#39; town with its market, banks, and %26#39;regular%26#39; shops as opposed to the area nearer the domaine which is dominated by tourist hotels and souvener shops. Driving and parking around this area is extremely difficult, and it is advisable to use an hotel with it%26#39;s own carpark and walk since most of Lourdes is accessible by foot. There is also a regular bus service between the railway station and the entrance to the Sanctuary.

i completely agree with the author of the previour post. just came back from a 3 day trip. most of the hotels are within walking distance. it is much easier to walk to the places. streets around the shrine are narrow, and were quite congested and crowded when we were there. it was much quicker by foot.
