A hotel near the Louvre

My parents [in their 80%26#39;s] are planning a 6-day trip to Paris for their 60th wedding anniversary. They want to stay in walking distance to museums and would like to spend under 300 U.S. dollars a night. Any suggestions?

Hi there ecmdtraveler,

Last year we were in Paris and stayed in the Louvre Montana, on Rue St Roch. It is literally just around the corner from the Louvre - less than 5 minutes walk. The hotel really is quite charming, and the staff are delightful and most helpful. We got a deluxe room with breakfast for Aus$278 a night, but it%26#39;s probably gone up a little now. Check out the various rates on sites such as Venere, however, as we found big differences amongst the various booking agencies. It%26#39;s also certainly worth contacting the hotel direct and mentioning that it%26#39;s a special event, as a 60th is certainly something to celebrate. Your parents need to be aware, though, that the elevator - as I think is the case in many Parisian hotels - is tiny: one person and a suitcase at a time, or two people, no luggage. Good luck with your search.

Cheers ...

Hotel Louvre Saint Anne gets high ratings and is about $210 per night. Great location, less ritzy than some in the area but the staff is highly appreciated.

Hotel Brighton, is on Rue Du Rivoli, right across from Tuilleries , about 1/2 block down from the Louvre.

Rooms are decent size, and the view rooms have AMAZING views, you can see the ET twinkling at night, magical. Get teh view room!

It has two elevators, a smaller one, and a larger one. The larger one easily can take 4 people or 2 people and all their luggage.

Staff very nice amd most speak good english.

Metro across street, taxi stand just a few doors down.

The Orsay is about a 10 -15 minute walk across the Siene or a cheap taxi ride.

Place du Concorde 5 minutes walk.

Tour office for Cityrama less then 5 minute walk, if they want to take any bus tours or daytrips.

We like the Mansart, just off the Place Vendôme and about 3 blocks from the Rue du Rivoli entrance to the Louvre. The hotel%26#39;s rooms are charming, with antique furnishings but modern baths. On the same street as the hotel%26#39;s entrance are a pharmacy, an ATM, and a post office. Many good restaurants nearby, too.

We stayed at an apartment near the Louvre in June, but agree, the Brighton would have been our hotel choice perhaps, for the views and the location (across the Tuileries). Another one that looked nice was Hotel du Louvre, literally across the street from the Louvre, and you step out the door and the Metro is right there in front of you, might be good for older people (steps involved, though). This one was also just down the street from the Opera House, seemed like a very nice area.

Hotel Brighton would be my choice. Make sure you get a room facing the Tuilleries!
