Bars and Nightclubs in Paris

My husband and I are nightowls and love to go out after dinner none of this turning in by 10pm. It is a vacation I can sleep when I get home!! We got some really good recommendations for our trip last year and went to quit a few of them and had a blast.

For those of you in Paris or have visited there in 2008 do you have and advice on what places to go. We like really all kinds of music and really enjoyed listening to some live bands as well.

Cheers,

Tell me what kind of places you like and I will provide you with some good adresses and names:

trendy? snobish? underground? laid-back? arty? electro? jazz? rock? in central neighborhoods or is it OK if it%26#39;s further apart? expensive? cheap? with beautiful people? broke students? wannabe artists? to drink a lot of beers? to dance until next morning? to listen to alternative bands? to wander from bar to bar or to stay in a single fashionable night-club all night long?

Wow...that is alot of choices!! We like everything from the local dive bar to a place that serves specialty cocktails. Not really into snobish type places, but like dance clubs playing todays music and retro. really like live music like at Jazz clubs and piano bars. We are in our very early 30%26#39;s and we love to relax in lounges listening to music ,dance all night in clubs the only thing to keep in mind is we are not beer drinkers...we enjoy spirits alot more.

We will be staying in the 3rd if that helps any. The only music we don%26#39;t like is rap music all other music is good to us.

A couple of paces that I can remember the names of that we went to last time was Queen and The Austrailan Bar. We went to more but I can%26#39;t remember the names off the bat. We were there during the Rugby World Cup last year and spent alot of time watching games in more pub like places to be able to watch the matches.

Nightclubs with electronic music:

- Le Rex, 2nd, métro Bonne Nouvelle: the best nightclub in its category, for electronic music lovers

- Social Club, 2nd, métro Bonne Nouvelle: a new trendy nightclub with very good DJs

- Showcase, 8th, métro Alma: a club located below Bridge Alexandre III

- Batofar, 13th, métro Bibliothèque François Mitterrand: a club on a boat near the new National Library, small but edgy

- Favela Chic, 10th, métro République: mix of Brazilian, hip-hop and electronic music, very popular place and always crowded.

The Queen, the Mix and the Loco are very mainstream. Safe bets in terms of electronic music but not really the places to be.

DO NOT FORGET to check these places%26#39; websites beforehand, as they may host a vast range of parties and music styles during the week, and may be closed on Mondays for instance.

It%26#39;s completely useless to show up in a Paris nightclub before 1 a.m. as there will be almost nobody on the dancefloor, unless a very famous DJ is mixing and you want to be sure to get in.

Good jazz clubs:

- Duc des Lombards, Sunside and Sunset, 1rst, métro Les Halles: the three of them are located in a row in Rue des Lombards, right in the center.

- New Morning, 10th, métro Château d%26#39;Eau: my favourite jazz club, located in an African neighborhood (a bit seedy-looking but OK), great atmosphere and a nice venue

- Caveau de la Huchette, 5th, métro Saint-Michel: a laid-back jazz club, you can also check out the other %26quot;jazz caves%26quot; in the area

Trendy bars with live music:

- Flèche d%26#39;Or, 20th, métro Gambetta: free live bands almost every night (indie bands mostly) in a former train station turned into a an arty venue

- Point Ephémère, 19th, métro Stalingrad: a venue mixing clubbing, live music, exhibitions, restaurant, located right on the canal in a former industrial building

- Opus Café, 10th, métro Stalingrad: a bar focused on black and Latino music (soul, R%26#39;n%26#39;B, funk, Cuban, Brazilian, etc.)

Now if you want to drink cocktails in a nice setting you can%26#39;t get wrong in the Marais... just explore the streets around Place des Vosges (rue des Francs-Bourgeois, rue Vieille du Temple), Bastille (rue de Lappe and rue de Charenton). Similarly, you can%26#39;t get wrong in the 6th: check out Rue des Canettes and all the little streets around Saint-Sulpice, Odéon square, rue de Buci (this one is a bit too touristy to my taste though).

If you prefer a more bohemian Paris, try %26quot;La Fourmi Ailée%26quot;, métro Anvers, and %26quot;Les Folies%26quot;, métro Belleville. Easy to find since theses bars are ALWAYS crowded.

For something more expensive, Café Georges on top of Centre Pompidou has a spectacular view (but prices and attitude can be snotty).

Rue de la Gaité near Montparnasse (métro Edgar Quinet) is very laid-back, with lot of cafés and restaurants.

OK, that%26#39;s all!

Has anyone been to Bobin%26#39;o after the cabaret when it turns into Erotica nightclub. Or maybe that is the name of the show. I found a website for EroticaParty on myspace at Bobin%26#39;o that is rather..ahem..well..okay...not for some but I want to check it out.

Just a little confused as to what is what.

Thank you Flashby I will be sure to check out the website.

To G00d what can say but thank you so much for taking the time to list all these places for us. I am sure I will not be the only only to pickup on some of your suggestions!!

information on the nightclub transformation at Bobino%26#39;s

http://www.goingout.fr/BOBIN-O,3405.html

You can have google translate it. Tripadvisor wouldn%26#39;t let me post that link because it had too many characters.

There is a link on the net for the Erotica-Party at Bobin%26#39;o but it might be considered porn by Trip advisor. You will just have to search for it if you are interested.
