Ile de Re in September

We desperately want to visit ile de Re but it won%26#39;t be until September. Has anyone got any advice on the weather at this time of year? Will we still be able to spend a day on the beach? I%26#39;m concerned it might rain all week and if so, if there is enough to do to keep you from having the holiday ruined by rain.Any comments welcome.

Thanks

I love the Ile de Ré, and have been there many times.

I never go in July or August - far too crowded. For me, May, June, or September are the best months. I have even been there at the end of October and have still been wearing shorts.

So normally September should be hot and dry.

However, you can never guarantee anything with the weather. June and July so far have been far colder and wetter than normal. Although the weather here in France has not been as bad as in the UK, it is not typical summer weather. Will the weather still be dissapointing in September? If I could answer that I could probably make a fortune as a weather forecaster;

I know exactly what you mean. Thanks ever so much for your details about your experiences though. I think its worth a shot!

Thanks again.

Fingers crossed, kparsnip, you should have lovely weather in September...definitely still hot enough for a day on the beach, and even a dip in the sea. In fact, if you%26#39;re really lucky (and brave), you can still swim in October. No guarantees, though! I would deffo recommend June/September over July/August if you can get away out of the main holiday season. Enjoy!

I have spent 5 days at Saint-Martin in September 2005. Here is my weather experience:

- One windy day with some rain (not OK for cycling, but didn%26#39;t prevent us to have a nice long walk in the salt marschs).

- Two cloudy days, not beach days, but with nice temperature, very good to cycle.

- Two beautiful hot days with blue skye : lots of beachtime, sea temperature was really nice!

I had already been there before, but in August. I will definitively go back in June or September, as the island is far too crowded in July/August! I really discovered and loved Ile de Ré when coming in September. It was great for bird watching.

Weather is changing a lot on an island, I am sure you will not experience bad weather several days.

Thanks for all your messages - I am now very excited about our holiday to the le de Re!

Lets hope the sun is shining.

Have just returned from St Martin and had a wonderful time at La Maison Douce. The first part of our week 27-31st july haveto say that it wasn%26#39;t partcularly crowded at all - at least to us. However by the friday boy was it crowded. Weather was very mixed - very cloudy over the weekend, two fine days and two mixed days. Would be interested in your experience when you return as we are keen to visit in Autumn and spring.

I shall let you know how the weather turns out!

Fingers crossed it%26#39;ll be warm.

Well, it%26#39;s mid-September now, and the weather is just GLORIOUS. Hope you%26#39;re enjoying yourself, kparsnip!

Ahhh - the weather was superb! We could not have asked for better! Sunshine everyday. What a wonderful island - so quiet, restful and peaceful. September seemed to be a great time to go - still busy ish but not too crazy!

Hope it last until next week as we shall be heading there from North Yorkshire!

It%26#39;s our third visit. We usually travel by car but this year we are using Ryanair from Stanstead. Does anyone know if there are plenty of taxis at La Rochelle airport?

Last year we had an Autumn break in Bergerac and arrived to find there were no taxis at the airport! Needless-to-say the mobile started playing up - just when we needed it !
