Paris has several youth hostels that are in nice locations. I don%26#39;t have the information but years ago my children stayed in them and were very happy. There are some with dorms but there are a few with private rooms too. At that time the Frenc Cultural Centre gave us the details. It is limitted to young students.

Does your program have a list of rentals? Most youth hostels have a limit on the number of nights you can stay. Try Paris attitude to look for an apt (they have some longterm rentals). Where will you be studying? This would give me an idea as to recommendations as would a budget.

I am not exactly sure, bit its either institute catholique de paris or sorbonne IV.

The main campus of Paris IV is in the 5th and the Institute Catholique (if I remember correctly is in the area S. of Luxemborg Gardens near Montparnasse). The southern area of the 5th might work near Cardinal Lemoine. I am NOT a student so perhaps there is someone who would better help you with a happening neighborhood.
