We are going to be in Paris for a week %26amp; then ????. We have 3 weeks all up %26amp; the other couple have already been to Italy so we think we should go somewhere else. Thinking maybe Belgium, Switzerland, Germany which I think we could do by train.... or we could catch a flight to Greece %26amp; spend time in Athens..... We are very close to being able to book flights so I need, at least, to have arrival %26amp; departing cities organised. We are in our 40%26#39;s, love good food %26amp; as Aussies...it takes a long time %26amp; a lot of $$$ to get there so just hoping to get the most out of our holiday (also I am the researcher %26amp; I won%26#39;t live it down if I stuff up lol)

Why not Spain? We were there for 5 days and loved it. We went to North-west Spain - Santiago de Compostela and Lugo. The food is delicious and most prices are very reasonable (especially if you compare them with Paris!). If you crave the exciting full-on life I guess Barcelona and Madrid are better, but we really enjoyed the Basque area and the cathedrals, towns, food, shops, and countryside. Just watching the pilgrims can be fun, and don%26#39;t be surpeised if someone asks %26#39;did you walk here?%26#39;
Lugo is interesting - there is a Roman wall that you can walk on/around! Not quite the Great Wall, but something different. Hotel Mendez Nunez is right in the centre of the old town and is very reasonably priced. Breakfast is basic but good. There is a bus from Lugo to Santiago airport (and vv). We wished we%26#39;d had longer - and maybe looked at Portugal.
Good luck!

We are going next year as well and are doing the greek isles,Naxos and santorini then flying to Milan and 3 days in switzerland then the cinque terre ,Provence region and onto Paris.
If you are using FFpoints the amount is the same to Athens as london.Picked up very cheap flight Santorini to milan, Aegean air by booking well in advance. Am researching and taking advice from other posters regarding train schedules and travel.Looks easy on paper????
Best of luck

Can anyone share advice on travelling around Switzerland, Germany etc. I would like to be able to weigh up the pros %26amp; cons of all the advice %26amp; then make a well informed decision...though I figure we will have a great time wherever we end up...and if we miss something, woe is me, we might have to go back again!!!

Hi fellow Aussies
Although it%26#39;s an amazing city, you may find a week in Paris tiring and expensive. If so, can I suggest taking a TGV (very fast train) to Lyon, France.
It only takes 2.25 hrs from Paris and Lyon is less hectic than Paris and in many ways more interesting. With a modern metro, modern trams, an historic old district (vieux lyon), a Roman amphitheatre, it%26#39;s the gastronomic capital of France and is a wealthy city. It has a population of about 1.5 million but has a young vibe with a dozen tertiary institutions in Lyon. Things are cheaper than Paris too.
The shopping is great, the people friendlier than Paris and you can easily visit Geneva or the Alps in a day. Google Lyon France for their English website.
We loved Lyon! Just returned in early Sept.
