Hi,
I will be arriving at Paris Gare du Nord on 27 Sept (Sat)night and staying at a hotel at Vaugirard. I will be leaving via Gare du Nord on 02 Oct (Thu). I plan to visit Versailes and Chateau Chantilly apart from the usual central Paris. Which would be a better deal, Carte Orange or Carte Mobilis + Carnet?
Appreciate any advice.
Thanks!

Your best bet will probaly be separate RER %26#39;C-5%26#39; ligne tickets (5,80€ r.t....approx 40 mins) out to VERSAILLES-Rive Gauche (Zone 4) from Paris...or a %26#39;combo%26#39; FORFAIT LOSIR rail %26amp; entry pass to Chateau de Versailes. For the TER strain ride from PARIS-Gare du Nord out to CHANTILLY-GOUVIEUX station (14,40€ r.t...25 mins) another separate TER ticket.
For the rest of your time in Paris, if you will be doing two(2) daytrips out of the city, then sharing CARNETs (packets of 10 reduced-price Tickets..11,40€) as needed will probably suit your purpose best.

We just returned from Paris and there were signs everywhere that as of September 21 the Carte Orange would no longer be available to anyone for purchase.
Instead you would have to buy a Navigo Decouverte with the extra 5 euro charge for the reusable card.
Hope that helps...

That may be PARTIALLY right...and mostly WRONG. The CARTE ORANGE transportation pass will CONTINUE to be available. It just won%26#39;t be available in its %26#39;old format%26#39;--separate, magnetic-read ticket/coupon %26amp; re-usable, cardboard, photo-ID card. The CARTE ORANGE will only be available in it%26#39;s NEW (since Sept 2007) format...wit the CO fare%26#39;..loaded..%26#39; onto a re-loadable, re-usable (for 10 years--5€) Navigo system %26#39;..DÉCOUVERTE..%26#39; electronic %26#39;tap %26#39;n go%26#39; device. The %26#39;..format..%26#39; has changed...but the CARTE ORANGE remains the same.

I have been in Paris for 2 weeks. I arrived on a Wednesday afternoon at Gare de Lyon from south of France and went to the ticket office and asked for %26quot;une Navigo Decouverte pass charge (the e is with an acute) pour cette semaine - zones un et deux%26quot; (apologies for bad French but they understood).
I was given a %26quot;Carte Nominative Transport%26quot; (cost is 5 Euros and lasts at least 5 years I believe) onto which I had to stick my cut down copy of my passport photo and write my name. It is white with purple and green.
Then I was given my Navigo Decouverte card which is the pass itself. It is white with a big purple curved section and white and green writing that says %26quot;Navigo Decouverte%26quot; and the back is green with the same purple curved section and has a gold %26quot;smart chip%26quot; sort of thing. I think the cost was 16 Euros 80 for a week Monday to Sunday.
Both the Carte Nominative Transport and the Navigo Decouverte card have a serial number which shows on the front with your name and photo when the two are placed properly in the stiff clear plastic holder. There is nothing orange on either of them and they do not have the words %26quot;Carte Orange%26quot; anywhere.
Each Monday since I arrived I have recharged the Navigo Decouverte for that new week. Once I found a machine that took notes and recharged it myself. The second time the machine only took credit cards so I went to the ticket office and gave them the two cards in their plastic holder and said %26quot;bonjour etc je voudrais recharger pour cette semaine%26quot; and she did that for me.
I don%26#39;t care whether Carte Orange is still a term that is used - I have only seen it used on signs that say it is no longer available at this or that ticket office. The pass is great value and easy to use and I hop on and off all forms of public transport in zones 1 and 2 with it.
Metromole gave a very good description of how to set up your Carte Nominative Transport, which I remembered and followed and had no problems.

There are posters at some of the metro stations (definitely not %26quot;everywhere%26quot;), that they stop selling Carte Orange tickets there. That does NOT mean that ALL stations stop selling them, it just applies to the stations where the posters are.
The old style Carte Orange %26quot;coupon%26quot; is expected to remain available at a lot of metro stations in months to come.

I don%26#39;t know why anyone would bother unless they already had the Carte Orange identity card since it will be %26quot;dead%26quot; soon and the Navigo Decouverte will last you for years for future trips. Laushubear perhaps you already have the identity card for Carte Orange? If so - use it, if not, follow my advice above.

BTW, Jan Too, I did not say %26quot;everywhere%26quot; as suggested by the use of quotation marks around the word in your post. I said %26quot;I have only seen it [the words Carte Orange] used on signs that say it is no longer available at this or that ticket office%26quot;

Nice explanation there...

^^ I just read the following at the link:
%26quot;It is on sale from the previous Friday to the Thursday of the week in which it is to be used. On Fridays, only a pass for the following week can be bought%26quot;
Is being able to buy the CO for the current week on a Thursday something new? From memory, I recall that the limit was only to Wednesday before.
Also, is there any word about whether they will allow weekly tickets to be bought in the future that are not restricted for use from Mon-Sun?
Thanks, mez

I don%26#39;t know about the %26#39;Thursday%26#39; thing, unless it applies only to loading the pass to the electronic card (but not to the paper tickets).
No one has mentioned anything about other types of passes / periods.
