Hi Everyone,
I%26#39;m off to Montpellier early - mid October and would like to vist yardyards and do some wine tastings on a budget. Any ideas were the best places around the area are for this?
Thanks

It is normal to taste a wine before buying in Languedoc. Winetasting in Languedoc is a relaxed affair. Unlike other areas, there is normally no charge, and no one is upset if you don%26#39;t buy.
There are several thousand wine producers in Languedoc-Rousillon.
A few are medium scale with organised wine tasting facilities. The majority are small, where wine tasting is available by appointment.
The cave co-operatives vary in management style. Those with retail shops offer wine tasting. Smaller co-operatives require an appointment.

Very near Montpellier (actually on the road from Aigues-Mortes to Le Grau du Roi) is the winery of Listel. Listel has a tour open to the public.

The exact dates of course vary but you will be visiting very near harvest time (le vendange), a vineyards busiest time of year. Keep in mind that many smaller growers may be preoccupied with their harvest and not overly enthusiastic about receiving visitors.
