I had such a great time in Paris and Hyeres last July, I%26#39;m returning to Paris in early July of 2009, and thought I%26#39;d rent a car and travel to Normandy...probably taking a sidetrip initially to Versailles.
A suggested B and B or family run accomodation would be of the most interest to me, with me staying in the Normandy area for about a week or so. Any other nearby areas of interest would be appreciated.
While I am learning French, it%26#39;s pretty rudimentary now, so is the countryside about what I experienced before...everyone knows a few words of English and most shopkeepers speak it somewhat ?

Normandy%26#39;s a very big region. The most interesting part is lower Normandy (Bayeux, Honfleur, Caen and the d-day beaches).
If you plan on visiting Versailles continue on to Giverny on your way to stopping at Bayeux. Bayeux is a good base to visit Normandy from. There%26#39;s the Bayeux tapestry, the cathedral and the town itself. Bayeux is one of the few towns to have escaped being badly damaged in the war. The d-day beaches are just 10 miles from Bayeux (although they spread for 55miles). To visit them you should have a guide or you%26#39;ll waste your time and wont appreciate the visit. There are private guides available, minibus tours or an audio guide.
Caen is not far away. It has the largest fortress in Europe that was built by William the conqueror and two abbeys built by him.
Mont St Michel is 1 1/2 hours from Bayeux. It%26#39;s the eighth wonder of the world.
On your way back to Paris visit Honfleur and Rouen.
