We are thinking of driving from London to Lake Annecy for the October half term with 2 children aged 5 and 8. Can anyone advise on what the weather will be like then and the sorts of activities available for children. Will everywhere be open? Restaurants etc, just wondering whether it is the best time of year to go or maybe more beneficial to go in summer months

Hi
Summer months are usually extremely busy - traffic is bad in Annecy at the best of times, and in the summer can be very bad. I prefer the autumn, as there are lovely trees round the lake etc, but of course the weather is less predictable (although not usually too cold, possibly rain).
If the weather is good, there are little bikes to pedal round the park, and there%26#39;s usually a carousel working there too. You might even be able to take a boat out on the lake. There%26#39;s an outdoor public pool, but I dont know if it%26#39;s open in October.
Restauranats definitely open most of the year, as it%26#39;s a winter destination (near skiing) too.

Thanks for that, do you know lake annecy very well, the other decision is whether to stay close to or in Annecy itself or elswhere around the lake - don%26#39;t want anything too quiet, nice to be able to walk to restaurants, any tips would be great

To walk to a good selection of restaurants, stay in Annecy itself - the villages round the lake are more limited. But Annecy le Vieux is walkable to Annecy itself, and there%26#39;s a small beach area there for kids, and possibly other activities too.
