alps areas

During our 7 weeks in France next June/ July we have 6 days to spend in the alps. Can%26#39;t decide between the Chamonix area in France or the Lauterbrunnen area over the border in Switzerland.

We will be arriving in Geneva after catching a flight from Bordeuaux. After our time in the alps we go to Paris.

Any advice on which area to choose.? We want beautiful scenery with a chance to go up the mountains in the cable cars. I have been a bit a bit put off with Chamonix due to it%26#39;s apparent %26quot; touristy nature%26quot; and some say the scenery is prettier in Switzerland.

Cheers

We%26#39;ve just come back from a week%26#39;s walking in Chamonix, and we also had a walking holiday near Lauterbrunnen a couple of years ago. Both places had plenty of beautiful scenery and cable cars ... and neither of them seemed to be any more %26#39;touristy%26#39; than the other.

Where the Interlaken area probably has the edge is that the transport is well integrated, and there are some gentle walks and boat trips if the weather comes down. I%26#39;d stay in Grindelwald for prettiness, rather than Lauterbrunnen though.

But the weather was good for us in Chamonix - the views were spectacular and the trip over the glaciers into Italy was a real highlight.
