Hi everybody, here I am coming from the Italian tripadvisor forum...
I%26#39;ve read a lot here about Carte Orange, PND, Paris Visite...but I%26#39;m a bit confused.
Next month I will be in Paris from Monday to Saturday included (so, as far as transportation is concerned, I%26#39;m inclined to get the Pass Navigo Découverte (5€), loading there the CO).
1) Since I%26#39;m arriving at/departing from CDG and I%26#39;m planning to go to Versailles, do you suggest me to get the PND zones 1-6 directly? (zone 1-2 + return tickets both for CDG and Versailles wouldn%26#39;t make me save that much, would they?).
I read that The Navigo Découverte is sold in the metro/RER ticket windows. Since I will be arriving at terminal 2G, could you tell me if it is possible to get it %26amp; load the CO on it right there?
Thank you so much!
Merci beaucoup!
A. :))

CO for zones 1-5 is definitely the product that you need: zone 1-2 + return tickets both for CDG and Versailles cost MORE than a CO for zones 1-5.
Yes, you can have it loaded on your Navigo Découverte in CDG, but there%26#39;s a possibility that you won%26#39;t need to buy the Navigo Découverte and buy the %26quot;old version%26quot; of CO instead (and save the 5 euros). My friends were in CDG this March and the CO (%26quot;old version%26quot;) was available. I was in Paris in April-May, and managed to buy it at Montparnasse metro station, but I don%26#39;t know if it were available in CDG then (and if it%26#39;s still available now).

Given the specific days of the week of your proposed itinerary and your plans for airport transfer from and back to CDG (located out in Zone 5) and visit to Chateau Versailles (located out in Zone 4), as noted above, the CARTE ORANGE Zone 1-5 suits your purpose right down to the sock. If you are arriving at one of the CDG #2 air terminals (A,B,C,D,E %26amp; F..but no G) the SNCF/TGV/RER station is interconnect between #2-C %26amp; D and #2-E %26amp; F. Simply walk to the train station, take the escalators down to the lowest level for the RER station and purchase your DÉCOUVERTE device and CO there.
The %26#39;old format%26#39; (separate cardboard photo-ID card %26amp; paper, mag-strip coupon/ticket) CARTE ORANGE has been phasing out for nearly a year now...replaced by the new digital Navigo system DÉCOUVERTE %26#39;tap %26#39;n go%26#39; %26#39;device%26#39;. There remain intermittent reports of the %26#39;old format%26#39; of the CARTE ORANGE still being available at SOME Metro and RER stations...but only on an %26#39;as available%26#39; basis. So unless you get lucky...or you take a tour of Metro stations until you find one that still has a supply...count on purchasing the re-usable/re-loadable DÉCOUVERTE device and loading your weekly CO fare onto that. Either way...you STILL need to provide a small (approx.35 x 41 mm) %26#39;head-shot%26#39; ID photo at the time of purchase.
When you arrive at the RER station at CDG-2, unless you have a European-issued credit card with embedded %26#39;smart chip%26#39; or €uro coinage, DO NOT try to use the automatic ticket vending machine. The automatic vending machines will NOT accept US-issued credit cards. Purchase your DÉCOUVERTE %26#39;device%26#39; with CO loaded fare from an agent at a manned ticket window, which accepts both US-issued credit cards or €uro cash for the purchase.

...thanks to both of you: you are wonderful!
Actually, i%26#39;ll be arriving exactly at terminal 2G...Shall I go to another 2-terminal then, to get my PND? It would be a pity not to buy it inside the CDG. As far as the credit card is concerned, no problem, I have one issued in Italy.
Thanks again a lot!

I didn%26#39;t know there was a 2-G terminal.. ?
There are 2 RER stations/ticket windows. One is inside T-2, next door to the TGV ticket windows. The RER/TGV complex is situated between halls 2C/2D and 2E/2F.
The other station is not in a terminal, but is a %26#39;stand-alone%26#39; building - it is somewhat near T-3. You could reach it via the CDGVAL rail. But it sounds like the T-2 terminal is where you will be.

I was in Paris in early June, from all these posts I assumed we%26#39;d have to buy the %26quot;new version%26quot; of the Pass Navigo. The person selling us the tickets %26quot;insisted%26quot; that we buy the old Carte Orange pass - and save 5 Euro%26#39;s. It was so easy to buy at the ticketwindow, and the employee was very helpful - just make sure you have your photo with you, the process took only took a few minutes.

Thanks a lot everybody (T-2G: yes, my travel plan says I will be arriving at terminal 2G - going to let know!). Now I know exactly what to do. Au revoir et merci beaucoup!

With apologies, turns out there is indeed a new CDG %26#39;..T2G Regional Terminal..%26#39;

%26lt;%26lt;%26lt; The %26#39;old format%26#39; (separate cardboard photo-ID card %26amp; paper, mag-strip coupon/ticket) CARTE ORANGE has been phasing out for nearly a year now...replaced by the new digital Navigo system DÉCOUVERTE %26#39;tap %26#39;n go%26#39; %26#39;device%26#39;. Wondering if anyone knows....is it just the old CO photocards that are difficult to come by, or is it also the paper coupons that are difficult to find? Reason I ask is that I already have a CO photocard from a previous trip and am wondering how easy it will be to buy a coupon for it as I%26#39;d rather not spend the extra EUR 5 on a Navigo if I don%26#39;t have to as I%26#39;ll be paying this out of my own pocket.
Also a couple of other questions that I%26#39;ve tried to find the answer to but failed (seems more logical to pose them here rather than start a yet another new ticket thread)...
I%26#39;ll be staying in La Defense and tho the nearest Metro is Esplanade I%26#39;ll also want to use the busses around the area which I believe means that I need zone 3 too. Is that correct?
I%26#39;ll be arriving at CDG and work would prefer me not to get a taxi so is it possible to buy an extension ticket from/to CDG? If so, how much is it? I%26#39;ve looked on the RATP website but can%26#39;t find the price for a trip from the centre (or edge of zone 3) to the airport.

The paper CO coupons/tickets are still available in autonatic vending machine at many Metor stations. You will need either a European %26#39;smart-chip%26#39; embedded credit card or €uro coinage.
Though La Défense is physically out in Transportation Zone 3, there is an %26#39;EXCEPTION%26#39; to the regular Transportation Zone system for the regular METRO. ALL regular METRO ststions are within Zones 1-2. If you are using a Zone 1-2 transportation pass or Ticket t, you can use the regular #1 METRO ligne (ONLY) to the LA DÉFENSE-GRANDE ARCHE **METRO** ststion...but ***NOT*** on the RER %26#39;A%26#39; ligne trains. For the purpose of the RER %26#39;A%26quot; ligne, La Défense is still in Zone 3.
There is no CDG %26quot;..extension ticket..%26quot; add-on to a Zone 1-2 . You would simply purchase a separate ticket for the RER %26#39;B%26#39; ligne (Roissyrail--8,40€) trains or a separate ROISSYBUS (8,90€) ticket between CDG and Paris.
***BUT***...do the math....the CARTE ORANGE Zone 1-2 is 16,80€.....CARTE ORANGE Zones 1-5 (CDG is out in Zone 5) is 33€. So if the RER %26#39;B%26#39; ligne Roissyrail train or ROISSYBUS will be your mode of airport transfer, it makes sense to purchase the CO for Zones 1-5.
