Any recommendations for eating in or near Ile Rousse or St. Florent ?
Thanks,

My favourite Corsican restaurant in the Balagne (Calvi, Ile Rousse area) is Chez Léon, in Catteri. Catteri (or Cateri) is in the mountains behind the coast road, so you%26#39;ll need a car to get there, unfortunately. Stunning views, superb food and lovely people running it.
But park in the village centre car park - getting in and out of the restaurant%26#39;s own car park is a nightmare.
My favourite beach restaurant is the Mata Hari, at Arinella beach near Lumio, between Calvi and Ile Rousse. Great value at lunchtimes; prices go up somewhat in the evenings. DTR

In St Florent, I always go to Le Petit Caporal. When I was still working I tried a number of restaurants in St Florent and this one was definitely my favorite. An up-market restaurant is La Rascasse, but I only went once and don%26#39;t remember anything special about it.
I second Derekthered%26#39;s suggestions and would add Le Chariot in Algajola, which might get a bit rushed in high season but if you%26#39;re going in May or June it should be fine.

As you say %26quot;near%26quot;, if you%26#39;re looking for an experience, try Le But in Murato. Book first. It will be a meal to remember, don%26#39;t be rushed as it might take more than 3 hours, but you will neither feel the time dragging nor feel bloated afterwards.

Would second lunch at the Mata Hari, great food and atmosphere and views out to sea. Service excellent.
DTR - very briefly as this is the Corsica forum - how did you find Australia ?
|||
Well, very briefly... it was very interesting to see another Mediterranean-climate country on the other side of the world. It was great to see the grandchildren, but if you were to give a straight choice of Perth or Corsica, I%26#39;d go for Corsica every time! We found it too built-up to be honest, but enjoyed the weird wildlife and the winter sun. DTR

Perth reminded me of Florida (built up, freeways etc), Sydney wins hands down overall as the best city. Corsica will always be number 1 for us !

La Rascasse had excellent seafood pasta IMO. Also, there was a place just round the end of that line of restaurants along the harbour which had its tables cantilevered out over the water, with a divine view.

Hi, A little bit late maybe, but having just returned from St Florent, I would highly reccomend Le Pitit Caporal restaurant over looking the marina. We found this to be by far and away the best restaurent we tried. Their Creme Brulee is to die for! The service was excellent and very friendly.

Continuing restaurants you can recommend - although by next season there may have been a change of chef/owner ! -
Cesar on the harbour in St. Florent - moules gratines were lovely
Pizza place with red awning/table covers in the square at St. Florent opp the PMU cafe - good pizza
Le Chariot in Algajola - consistently good
U Fanale in Calvi - very good, booked solid on a Monday night
Chez Fifi in Calvi - first visit and the formule menu at 15 euros was excellent value, creme brulee yum, house rose wine @ 8.5 euros a bottle which was incredible value.
