honeymoon

My son is getting married next May, 2009 and someone

suggested going to Collioure. Does anyone have any suggestions or opinions on this place? is it a good honeymoon place to go with things to do and see?

My daughter went to Collioure for her honeymoon 3 years ago.

They stayed at :

and we booked them the suite with a terace.

Collioure is one of her (and our) most favourite places anywhere and she wanted to also chill out for a few days at Brasillia Site in Canet Plage afterwards as she had enjoyed so many great holidays there in her teens.

Suffice to say that her honeymoon was truly memorable for her and she felt that it was THE perfect choice for her.

Collioure is very beautiful and seems to enjoy a very sheltered microclimate as the sun always seemed to shine when we have been. Maybe that is just rose tinted memories!

It is extremely busy in high season however but May should be ideal. The area benefits from having a Catalan influence making it a contrast with other parts of France and the people are very friendly.

Plenty of restaurants etc to chillout in the evening without having to travel.

It is also perhaps the only area of France that I would consider doing without a car as the transport (mainly rail) are excellent and you can see a lot of the region without a car.

I doubt they will be disapointed and the suggestion is a good one.

Collioure is lovely with lots of wonderful fish restaurants and a pretty harbour %26amp; small beach. However it is small and I would have thought after a few days that could be enough. I would suggest then getting on the train and heading South to Barcelona, or heading North to La Rochelle, which is very similar to Collioure but on a much larger scale and more things to see %26amp; do.

There is a lot to see in the area (erm..... La Rochelle is fine, but 500 km away !): the coastline down to the Spanish border, Spain of course just 20 km away, the Pyrenees, the Cathar castles, Céret and its museum of Modern Art, all easy day trips if they have a car.

The Relais des Trois Mas is an excellent 4 star hotel in a beautiful setting and its restaurant, La Balette, is very good.

We%26#39;ve just returned from our holidays in Collioure and for me this is one of the nicest and most romantic small seaside towns of the whole Mediterranean cost. I could easily spend one or two weeks in this area as there is so much to do and see.

Only if you look for a really luxury place to stay at for the honeymoon Collioure couldn%26#39;t offer anything. The Relais des 3 Mas is the only 4star - we checked out the rooms the last time we were there a few years ago and thought they looked pretty tired and were much overpriced. Things could have changed in the meantime, but reading the latest reviews here on TA about this hotel I doubt it... This time we stayed at Casa Pairal which I think is the best choice. A 3star in an old catalan villa, full of character and charm - nice, but without any luxury.
