Beer in Paris?

Im going on my honeymoon in Paris in December and i am not a big wine drinker. I will definatly try some out, but i would much rather have a good beer than a glass of wine. I was wondering if they had any beers that are close to shiner bock? What kind of beer would you recommend? Thanks

Can%26#39;t really comment on types of beer available, but just wanted you to note that beer in Paris can be very expensive - much more so than wine. As Canadians, my husband and I stopped in at the Great Canadian Pub which was right near where we were staying. Went mostly as a lark on our last day in Paris, and found that yes, in fact, it looked like a very typical Canadian bar, except that a bottle of Molson Canadian was 7 euros! I had a 1/2 pint of Stella which was 4.50 euros. I%26#39;ve read other posts on this forum stating that they paid on average 9 euros per pint at many Irish pubs in Paris.

Of course drink what you want to drink, but you might want to adjust your budget accordingly!

I%26#39;m sure that there must be some places in Paris where beer isn%26#39;t as expensive, and perhaps other posters can give you some insight.

Enjoy your honeymoon!

Whilst in Paris you will be able to get a multitude of Belgian Beers from Leffe, Grimbergen, Blancs de Bruges etc, there are literally hundreds. they are realtively expensives especially if you are buying bottled beer, but if you want draft beer you order un pression. I love wine but find when I%26#39;m somewhere I can get a decent beer I drink more of that.

A glass of one of the great Belgian beers widely available on tap in Paris, %26quot;Affligem%26quot; is 2.90€ or less at most neighborhood brasseries. No Parisian would ever pay 4.50€, 7€, or 9€ for a beer. Only tourists pay those prices because they buy their beer near the tourist attractions. Fan out into the neighborhoods and drink what the locals drink and you%26#39;ll save a lot of money.

Did I mention how REALLY good %26quot;Affligem%26quot; is? Oh yeah, I did.

PmmcTO,, you of course broke major budget travellers rule,, never eat or drink anything from a cafe bar or restaurant within a block or two of any major site,, and the Canadian Pub is pretty well the epicenter of tourist Paris..LOL . Of course my friend and I popped in there too,, so I know its expeinsive..

We often ordered a draft beer that I really liked,, and I cannot remember the name,, its just on the tip of my tongue and gone,, rats,, it is very common I think..

Its name is a number,, like 1710 , or something like that, someone here knows I am sure.. it is great with a bucket of mussels!!

Kronenbourg 1664? Someone might be able to post the pronunciation!

Au Trappiste at 4 Rue Saint Denis might just have the best beer selection in Paris. It skews heavily towards the Belgian Ales but you should be able to find some good bock styles.

Yes Joan, we broke that rule on more than one occasion, believe me! As tourists with limited time however, we seemed always to be within a block or two of a major sight, and then moving on to another sight! Our next trip in May will be about savouring the neighbourhoods - can%26#39;t wait!

So there%26#39;s some good advice for you TXLonghorns from Metromole and Joan, stay away from touristy areas to enjoy many different types of beers at reasonable prices. For what it%26#39;s worth, we did enjoy a cold glass of beer at an outdoor cafe watching the world go by, and the price really didn%26#39;t matter to us - the experience was great. You may find it%26#39;s that way - if you see a place you like that has the beer you want to try, go for it and enjoy! It is your honeymoon.

Thanks alot for all the advice, its really been helpful. We are not really worried about price to be honest, this is our honeymoon so we are just going to have a great time. If we have to pay 10 bucks for a beer every once in a while thats ok. Thanks again.

If you just want to cut to the chase and order from the BEST selection of beer in Paris (beer from everywhere on planet earth), the %26quot;Academie de la Biere%26quot; is pretty hard to match. It%26#39;s an institution to Parisian beer lovers. They also have a fine Moules et Frites to go with that sumptuous Belgian ale or lager. I can%26#39;t recommend this place enough.

88-bis, Bd du Port-Royal in the 5th. RER-%26quot;Port-Royal%26quot; very close to the station.

We foundice micro-brew pub while looking for something else on our last trip...

O%26#39;Neil, Maitre Artisan Brasseur. Bar Micro-Brasserie Restaurant. 20, rue des Canettes, Paris VI

%26quot;Primier en France a frabriquer sur place en hautes fermentation des bieres pur malt et non pasteurisees.%26quot; (Best home brew in Paris, roughly)

We tried a very good dark beer there, but they also had a darker Bock and many lighter beers for next time.
