Hi, I have decided to take my girlfriend away for a couple of nights where I plan to propose to her but I am having a hard time on choosing where to go. I would like to use the Eurostar and have narrowed my choices down to Bruges or Paris.
I have never been to either city or have heard pro%26#39;s and con%26#39;s for both places. I haven’t got a huge amount of money to spend (due to spending most of my cash on the engagement ring!). Obviously Paris is the city of love and has quite a bit to do but I have heard it can be very expensive.
Bruges I don’t know much about, I believe it’s fairly cheap in comparison to Paris and is a beautiful (but quiet?) place to go.
I want to make this a weekend she will never forget so I want it go perfectly. I don’t want to be to stereo typical and propose at the Eiffel tower, I want to be a bit different.
Anyone had a similar experience and can push me on the right path to making a choice??
Thanks in advance

Paris. When you%26#39;re telling the story in the future it will sound better if you say you proposed in Paris, rather than Bruges which is actually quite a boring pace to be honest.
There are tons more options of where to propose in Paris as well...

Pais = City of Love!!
What more can you want!
You%26#39;re right proposing on Eiffel Tower is cheesey, far too touristy.
From my experience Paris is no more expensive than any other big city. Going from London you probably won%26#39;t notice it!!

Bruges is quite picuresque but saying you proposed in Paris would have a more romantic memory to it in the future I think.
Try searching these forums for %26#39;proposals%26#39; %26#39;romantic places to propose%26#39; etc and you can see all the previous posts and suggestions.
I agree the Tour Eiffel is a bit obvious (not dissing this as an option for those who want to).
There%26#39;s a chateau that has candlelit nights that sounded rather romantic up until the end Oct I think. Do you want the link? Take your champagne and a nice picnic and propose under the stars by candlelight.

Tough one to decide...
It%26#39;s all going to depend on what a person she is.
Paris is an obvious choice, Bruges is a more sofisticated thought. It%26#39;s smaller, quieter, incredibly romantic, still with a lot of charm and character. Paris is huge, lot%26#39;s of buzz, a load of history and things to do. Beautiful city, dinamic and restless. Also a romantic place. Specially on a river boat cruise or at the Bridge Alexandre III (hints!!).
Still it%26#39;s your decision!
Good luck and all our best!!

I adore Bruges, it%26#39;s quaint and very historical (the center area still looks about like it would have in the 1400s) but it%26#39;s very small and basically a one day trip (two at the most). Perhaps you could propose in Paris, but it it interests you, also do a short overnight trip to Bruges (about two hours from Paris by train)?
I do agree with the comments above that Paris is the place for the proposal. There are quite a few threads on this forum (you can do a search in the box above your original post) about ideas for places to propose in Paris - some are quite original and interesting (lots of possibilities other than the Eiffel Tower!)
Have fun with the planning, and congratulations - I%26#39;m sure it will be a memorable occasion.

Oh my goodness, Bruges is like something out of a fairy tale. Boring? Whatever...boring is in the eye of the beholder. I think Bruges is so beautiful, so romantic, so special. If you want different go for Bruges.

I am sorry, but it sounds like you are considering Brugges because you think it is cheaper, not more romantic, and that is a BAD reason as far as I am concerned.
Frankly, I would take a two day trip to Paris instead of a three day to Brugges( to save money) ,, as a romantic weekend in Paris will be a forever memory.. then for the honeymoon you could return to Paris for a night or two and then spend the next 3-4 days in Brugges to save money.
It like weddings, I hate going to weddings where you have to buy your own drink and eat potatoe salad because the bride and groom decide they have 300 hundred %26quot; good friends%26quot;( yah sure, can you say gift grab) but only have a budget for 100.
Better to scale it down and do it right.
Two magical nights in Paris are worth many nights somewhee else, and you live so darn close ( lucky you ) that you will have many chances to return for longer trips, and for which you could definately go very budget and not miss anything.
PS.. Paris is not more expensive then London ,, not as a tourist anyways.

One other thing - if you haven%26#39;t done this already you might want to go on TA%26#39;s Bruges Forum to see what%26#39;s there, and what people have to say about things to see and do in Bruges.

Paris, sundown on the Pont ds Arts, on the hour looking toward the Eifel Tower
If the weather is kind there will be a glorious sky, on the hour the Eifel Tower sparkles for ten minutes
Oh and a bottle of champagne and two glasses
Now that is the story to tell your childen and grand children
