Trains to Melun

I%26#39;d like to go to Vaux-le-Vicomte during my October stay in Paris. I understand that from the Gare de Lyon I can take either an RER or SNCF train to Melun, completing the trip by taxi, I presume, since the navette doesn%26#39;t appear to run in October: or does it on weekends? The Gare de Lyon is such a huge station to navigate that I%26#39;d appreciate some tips on which level to go to, where to buy tickets, whether I should buy a single ticket and take the most convenient train back, etc. In other words, the nitty-gritty!

During the day, it%26#39;s sort of a toss-up whether to take the RER %26#39;D%26#39; ligne or use the SNCF/TER train. There are more frequent %26#39;D%26#39; ligne trains from GARE de LYON to MELUN (heading in the direction of Gare de Melun..and %26#39;D%26#39; ligne train with a four-letter %26#39;..Z xxx..%26#39; designation)...but the RER takes longer--48-50 mins. The SNCF/TER train takes 25 mins.

So which %26#39;works%26#39; best for you will depend on when you arrive at GARE de LYON to depart for MELUN??...and which option is the next train??...odds are it will be a %26#39;D%26#39; train. Same for the return.

If you decide to use the RER %26#39;D%26#39; ligne for GARE de LYON...make sure it is a %26#39;D-2%26#39; ligne train, heading in the direction of Gare de Melun...any %26#39;D%26#39; train with a four-letter, %26#39;..Z xxx..%26#39; designation.

1. To reach Melun, there are too many options depending upon: (1) when you want to travel and (2) from what station you may want to depart. The website you need for complete schedules is:

http://www.transilien.com/

The basic one way fare is about 7.15€. For simplicity, I should think purchasing a return ticket will save time.

I have never found Gare de Lyon to be particularly difficult to navigate. Purchase your tickets from any ticket window on the main, entrance level of the station. You will need to consult one of the many monitors within the station to determine from where your train will depart.

2. The Châteaux-bus runs a full daily schedule through October 26th. You can download a full bus schedule here:

Thank you both, Sarastro and KDKSAIL. I%26#39;m good to go!
