Getting around Paris

Hi all.

I%26#39;m visiting Pairs for the first time this Saturday until Monday night. What is the best way to get around and see the sights?

Is there a special 3 day metro card or anything like that?

Thanks for your help.

Richard.

Some people prefer buses (which has the advantage of sightseeing), some prefer metro. My husband and I prefer to get around in the metro for convenience and time efficiency). We have never gotten the card (I understand it is weekly from Monday to Sunday, so if you get to Paris Wednesday is not a good value, because you can only use until Sunday). What we get is the 10 tickets carnet that is a better value than getting the individual tickets. We take with us a color copy of the metro plan and have no problem at all.

Bonne chance!

As this is your first visit I do think you should buy yourself a guidebook. Some of them now come in a mini version (I can recommend the shorter Rough Guide to Paris, £5.99). Not only will it help you with where to go, it will have a map, Metro map and a sction devoted to transport and other tips.

Here are the various options:

A carnet may be for you , its a book of 10 metro (or bus) tickets which gets you a slight discount, you may require 2 carnets (or 1 and a few extra single journey tickets) depending on how much you use the metro.

The metro is fantastic, trains run every 5-6 mins during day time and it is very easy to work out....and lots of stations!

You will probably be able to get a map at your hotel.

The buses are good too but i would recommend the metro for a first time visitor for convenience and speed.

you can plan journeys here
