I%26#39;m ending a river cruise on a Sunday in Aug. 08 and I need to get from Chalon to Paris for my overnight stay. The cruise line will not provide transporation because I didn%26#39;t purchase the Paris extension with them. There is a train that leaves Chalon in the afternoon, connects in Dijon and arrives in Paris is the evening. Or, I can book two separate tickets; Chalon to Lyon and then Lyon to Paris and leave earlier in the morning and arrive in Paris midafternoon. I%26#39;m wondering if there are any pitfalls in constructing my own schedule/connections that I should be aware of vs. waiting all day to leave on the railways posted connection. I%26#39;m not familiar with European rail travel and would appreciate any feedback or advice.

From what I can see on the SNCF website, taking a random date 17th August, there are several trains, leaving Chalon at 08h46, 10h49 or 14h05, all changing to a TGV (high speed train) in Dijon and arriving in Paris 12h37, 13h31 or 16h37.
If you%26#39;re happy to book online for yourself (use MorganB%26#39;s guide), early-booking tickets are about 30€ against about 60€ full fare.

You%26#39;re right, there are many different options on August 17th. Unfortunately, my travel date is August 24th, which I should have stated up front. There are only two trains listed on the 24th. I wonder why????

Because bookings don%26#39;t open until 3 months / 90 days ahead?! The ones which are listed on the SNCF site for the 24th are probably the local trains (which can%26#39;t be booked), not the TGVs. Keep checking and the high speed trains for your date should come up within the next few days.

Marie,
We are having the same issue. Are you taking a Viking cruise? The extension to Paris was closed, so they will not allow us to take their coach to Paris. I am trying to work out the details now. I would love to chat1 i have spent hours trying to work this out. Our trip leaves Avignon on 9/28.

Your travel agent can easily provide you with accurate travel information or transfers from a third party if you require it. Please contact the travel agent you booked your trip with and ask them. This is why people need travel agents.
