Please help me with my itinerary. I was thinking about spending two days looking at medieval villages and maybe a one day excursion to any coastal picturesque area.
Day one Friday: Noon: Arrive by plane to Marseille, rent a car and head to Avignon. Use the remaining of the day walking there and visiting Villeneuve les Avignon across the river
Day two Saturday: Half day in Avignon and a boat trip to either Chateauneuf-du-Pape, Arles or go to Les Baux de Provance (which one is the best?)
Day three Sunday: day trip to Isle-sur-la-sorgue + Gordes + Roussillon + Apt
Day four: I would like a change of scenery. Head towards the coast close to Marseiile ready for the flight back. Where?
Thanks so very much

Your itinerary is OK as framework but it%26#39;s a lot to do in the time alloted.
You might consider going directly from Marseille to Pont du Gard and then back to Avignon for the night. I should consider Pont du Gard a more compelling visit than is Villeneuve les Avignon. It seems a shame to be so close and not see one of the areas premier destinations.

I am not sure about the boat trips to Chateauneuf-du-Pape or Arles to which you are referring. If there are such trips, they might take more time than just half day. You appear to be familiar with most of the noteworthy destinations in the area but your pace is much more hurried than I recommend or should like to try. (Les Baux de Provence is worth the time to visit.)
One assumes you are spending 3 nights in Avignon and returning to Marseille for a departure on Monday. This leaves little time to %26quot;head towards the coast%26quot; for any type of actual touring and there is really little of interest between Sts. Maries de la Mer and Cassis unless you want to spend time in Marseille.
Still if you can somehow fit a short visit to Cassis into your plans, it is an interesting location:

Realistically, it would take almost a week to see all of which you propose.

On day two, don%26#39;t spend another half a day in Avignon. The things to see in Avignon are the Popes%26#39; Palace and the bridge. You%26#39;ve got enough time to see these on the day you arrive. I would go to St Remy via Les Baux, see Glanum and the monastery of St Paul de Mausole where van Gogh stayed, and have a stonking meal in l%26#39;Assiette de Marie, then drive back mid afternoon to spend a couple of days in Arles.
If you want sea, go to Cassis though I warn you parking is an issue, you will have to park away from the town centre. But Cassis is lovely and worth the effort.

Thanks for the help. One last favour. Can you please check the following:
Day one: will get a rental car at Marseille airport around 2pm. Stop for a short visit at either Les Baux or Pont du Gard and then head to Avignon for diner and hotel.
Day two: half day visiting Avignon (Popes’ Palace and Bridge). The other half go to St. Remy, visiting Glanum and the monastery of Saint Paul de Mausole.
Day three: visit Gordes, Rousillion and if possible another small place (maybe Isle-sur-la-sorgue or Apt)
Day four: drive early in the morning from Avignon to Cassis. Spend the day there and drive to Marseille to spend the night there in preparation for the next morning’s early flight.
Too much? Is it too big of a deal to miss Arles (it did not look very medieval to me). Am I missing something I should be seeing or including cities I should not bother to see?
Thanks so much for the help.
Estela (note: I will be doing this Oct. 10)
