Am struggling to find inexpensive flights to Calvi on September 14th - have booked car hire, hotel accommodation and paid deposits for a fly drive starting in Calvi so don%26#39;t really want to fly to Bastia or Ajaccio.
Our usual flights booked through Holiday Options are currently priced at £898 for 2 people (!) apparently they have unsold holiday accommodation in Calvi and around, and are keeping the flights in case they sell that accommodation. Flights may come down in cost at the end of August but it is a risk.
Any ideas for other flights to Calvi we may have missed, will keep trawling the net but any tips welcome, thanks.

Should have mentioned flight prices already found:
Thomsonfly £617.96 for 2 people to Calvi
Corsican Places £738.00
Westernair £678.00
VFB - like Holiday Options, are keeping seats for clients who book accommodation with them
Bastia flights are much cheaper - £338.00 for 2 seats with Westernair, £398.00 with Easyjet.

We are going 31/8 to 14/9 so we%26#39;ll miss you this time! We found the best deal for these dates to be with XL.com, but it does go to Bastia. Worth trying if you%26#39;re stuck. DTR

Thanks for that, I think we will wait until later on in August to see if the Calvi prices drop, or failing that fly to Bastia. Its just that Calvi airport is so convenient for our hotels booked; we will have to think again for next September. It is predicted that a number of smaller airlines will fold this winter, plus oil prices going ever upwards will spell the end of cheap flights to Europe. Sorry to miss you this time, have a great holiday.

And how right those predictions were! As you see, we went with XL.com. I%26#39;m not ashamed, but I think you chose the best airline...
We are in a hotel in Nice at the moment, having reluctantly booked our return flight with Easyjet... the company went bust last week! DTR

DTR - I don%26#39;t think anyone outside the travel industry knew that XL.com were in trouble financially, we have flown with them in the past to Greece and would have happily booked with them again. Hope you got home without too much hassle and managed to enjoy your holiday.
Funnily enough, the Holiday Options flights to Calvi we book each year - have previously flown with Astraeus, Channel Airways and Titan (!) via Holiday Options - were this year operated with Zoom Airways who also went bust late August. So its going to be a lottery next year ...
We found Corsica very busy 14-21 September (Calvi/St. Florent/Porto Vecchio), wondering whether to revert to early October when beaches blissfully empty. How did you find the island this time ?
|||
It was extremely hot the first week - temperatures touched 37 degC on one day, and it felt it. Yes, we found it very busy as well.
It%26#39;s very strange, this business aboiut tourist numbers. I heard a number of hoteliers, B%26amp;B owners and restauranteurs moaning about declining visitor numbers, but our apartment was boooked solid all summer and the websites are all showing record numbers of visitors. On balance, I think Corsica is getting more popular and we are seeing the island more crowded as a result.

Calvi seemed to be full of British people and St. Florent and Porto Vecchio busy with Italians and Germans. Lots of cyclists and motor bike riders about, more than we remembered from previous years. We strayed on to a different beach in the Palombaggia bay, the car park was like Piccadilly circus and the beach very crowded - September used to be quiet !
